Our Team
The Sanejo team is comprised of a distinguished group of young men and women from diverse backgrounds. All members are passionate travelers who have lived and worked in countries all over the world. They bring their wealth of experience and enthusiasm to Sanejo, and as “life learners,” are motivated to build a better future for tomorrow’s generation.
David Mwambari
David Mwambari is the co-founder and visionary behind Sanejo. Originally from Rwanda, Mwambari spent a significant part of his life living and studying in Kenya after surviving the 1994 Rwanda genocide. David holds a Diploma in Business Administration from Runder College (Nairobi), a B.A. in International Relations and Psychology, an M.A. in International Relations from the United States International University (Nairobi) and a second M.A. in Pan-African Studies at Syracuse University, New York. Presently, Mwambari teaches in the Social Sciences Department at Shawnee State University, Ohio. Mwambari has worked in East, Southern and Central Africa, training leaders of community-based organizations in educational dimensions and small business projects. These projects, academic research as well as other similar endeavors have taken him to various conflict situations in Burundi, Uganda, Democratic Republic of Congo, Kenya and others. Mwambari has travelled throughout Europe, Australia, the Middle East, Central, East and Southern Africa and the United States speaking to, informing and educating international audiences at universities, churches, nongovernmental organizations (NGOs) and high schools. He has also contributed numerous newspaper articles, media interviews and poems, to various countries voicing the plight of the African youth and inspiring audiences. He is proficient in a number of African and international languages such as, Kinyarwanda, Swahili, English and French. He also has many years of experience as an entrepreneur in the tourism industry in East and Central Africa, a skill he used to finance his education. He is a recipient of numerous awards, internationally for his community and academic work. Among Mwambari’s responsibilities are to lead Sanejo team and work as Sanejo’s spokesperson.
Clint Misamore
Clint Misamore is Sanejo’s partnership specialist; specifically, he is responsible for coordinating work between Sanejo and Y-GAP. Clint obtained his Bachelors of Science from Purdue University, in 2007. After graduating, Clint decided to develop a stronger sense of self and world culture; accordingly, he spent two years traveling overseas and visiting over 30 countries. During his time in Australia, he became a founding team member of Y-Generation Against Poverty (Y-GAP). Clint spent several months in Sub-Saharan Africa at the end of 2008 doing community development work. He is currently a graduate student in International Relations at the Maxwell School of Citizenship at Syracuse University. His study focus is pragmatic approaches in poverty alleviation within Global Markets and International Development in Africa.
Stephanie Nyombayire
Stephanie Nyombayire joined the Sanejo team in 2010 and adds her expansive knowledge of the non-profit world and passion for Rwanda and Africa to the Sanejo team. During her freshman year at Swarthmore College, Stephanie Nyombayire co-founded the Genocide Intervention Network. As a representative for the organization, she traveled to over one hundred colleges and high schools to speak against the Darfur Genocide and provide citizens the tools to take action. Stephanie has reported on the Darfur crisis from the Chad-Sudan border with MTV and was named one of Glamour magazine’s Top Ten College Women for her work on Darfur. Additionally, Stephanie was awarded the Imbuto Foundation’s Young Rwandan Woman Achievers award in 2007 by Rwandan First Lady Jeannette Kagame for her role in founding the Genocide Intervention Network.
Returning to Rwanda in 2008, Stephanie worked as the Career Development Director for Orphans of Rwanda, Inc.- an organization dedicated to helping orphans and socially vulnerable young people in Rwanda pursue higher education and leadership roles. In March of 2009, she began a two-month journey throughout Europe as part of a documentary that sheds light on the heroic actions of diplomats who went against their governments to save the lives of persecuted Jews. Throughout this project she traveled to eight European countries, Israel and Rwanda to interview survivors and their rescuers. Stephanie currently attends the NYU’s Wagner School of Public Service where she is pursuing a graduate degree in International Non Profit Management and Pubic Policy. She hopes to use this degree to return to Rwanda and continue to serve and empower the youth.
Sarah Schaeffer
Sarah Schaeffer is the co-founder of Sanejo and responsible for coordinating Sanejo’s volunteer program. Sarah recently completed her Master’s degree in International Relations from The London School of Economics. Previously, she spent a summer researching the Rwandan primary and secondary school education system and travelling throughout East Africa. Her primary interests lie in conflict resolution, post-conflict reconstruction, international law and sustainable peacebuilding. Apart from her research experience, Sarah has worked at the UN Headquarters in New York for the Mission of the Netherlands and participated in African focused conferences in New York, California and Cape Town, SA. Sarah is a native of Seattle, WA and obtained her BA from Occidental College in Los Angeles. She currently works and resides in Amsterdam.
Mårten Genfors
Mårten Genfors is the overseer of accountability and finance for Sanejo. Mårten is a graduate of the United States International University (USIU) in Nairobi, Kenya, where he completed a Master’s Degree in Management and Organizational Development. Mårten previously completed his Bachelors degree in Business Administration and a Diploma in Law from Stockholm University. After finishing his studies Mårten travelled throughout four continents before he returned to work in his hometown of Stockholm, Sweden. Mårten’s professional experience ranges from work in the financial sector, including the Swedish Trade Council, to working for the United Nations. Mårten finds it educative and rewarding to assist other people in realizing their dreams. His passion for empowering youth in Africa was sparked when he lived in Kenya and travelled throughout East-Africa.
Charlotte Uwantage
Charlotte Uwantege is the expert advisor for Sanejo’s Rwanda projects. Moreover, Charlotte is currently works in Rwanda as a Gender Specialist for an international organization. Previously, she worked as the Regional Coordinator (Southern Province) for LaBenevolencija, a NGO concerned with reconciliation and peacebuilding activities in local communities. Charlotte holds a Master’s degree in Conflict and Peace Studies and Gender and Religion from the University of KwaZulu Natal in South Africa. Along with her extensive knowledge and skills in peacebuilding, she has worked with health related issues. Charlotte has over seven years experience as a primary school teacher. She is fluent in many languages including French, English and Kinyarwanda.
