What is Sanejo?

Sanejo, (pronounced SAA-NEH-JO) originates from two shortened words in Kinyarwanda, one of the official languages of Rwanda. Sana comes from the verb “gusana” meaning to rebuild and “ejo” which means tomorrow.

Mission

Sanejo, through the promotion of education, aims to support communities transiting from war to peace or facing abject poverty. To ensure that all children have a happy and safe place to learn, support is extended to local communities to reconstruct and expand schools. Through local and international partnerships connecting donors with grassroots organizations, Sanejo aims to create sustainable relationships that will strengthen fragile post-conflict societies. Through this support, project partnerships will promote education, health and understanding by working with local communities directly.

What Makes Sanejo Different?

Sanejo’s focus is to partner with experts in their own communities; working hand in hand to improve the quality of education; and enrich the learning environments.

Peoples of Africa and around the world strive daily to improve their communities, yet many lack the resources to achieve their goals. Likewise, there are also people elsewhere with resources who want to make a difference, but do not know how to connect with local communities.

This is where Sanejo comes in. Sanejo acts as a link between dedicated partners and local communities which have experienced war or extreme poverty in order to help foster and expand education opportunities.

While some communities are in dire need of new schools, most communities with whom we intend to work are in need of BETTER schools; schools that can meet the demands of the 21st century with quality education, skills training and adequate resources for their teachers and pupils.

Through education “tomorrow’s generation” can break the cycles of poverty and conflicts that persist within many of our local communities.

Sanejo will bring together volunteers from various backgrounds, both non-African and African (from the diaspora or on the continent) to work together with the local communities. Sanejo will also offer mini-courses for volunteers to learn from the people they work with. Sanejo will foster an exchange that is based on mutual respect between partners.
