My Nike Sportwatch is one of my favorite fitness gadgets (right behind my IPOD), and is a pretty amazing piece of gear. Unfortunately I had a few issues with my first two Sportwatches. Luckily the third one was the charm and I have been using it every week for about the last year and I love it! I would recommend it for any dedicated runner from those training for a marathon to basic recreational runners who are interested in more accurately tracking their routines. Here is my review based on over a years experience in using multiple Nike Sportwatches: Intoduction to the Nike SportwatchThe Nike Sportwatch is a TomTom powered GPS watch that can effectively track your running (or eve biking). The Nike Sportwatch has a wide variety of features and keeps track of your splits, your personal records, the number of calories burned and, of course, your pace and distance. It can link to the Nike + sensor and allow you to track indoor runs (yep it even can track treadmill running). My experience with the GPS has shown it to be very accurate and reliable. You can even share these tracks with your friends via Facebook or Twitter. It can even link with a heartrate monitor (Polar Linkwear+). The watch also includes all the basic watch features you would expect like a stopwatch, an alarm and a backlight. There are two basic models one which comes with the Nike + sensor and one less expensive model that doesn't include the sensor. It comes in multiple color combinations. Best of all all of this comes in a package that is basically the same size and weight as an "everyday watch" (with a wider wristband). Getting Started with my Nike + SportswatchI got started with my Nike + Sportwatch over a year ago, when I decided I wanted to try and run my first Marathon. I ran frequently with my IPOD and Nike + Sensor, but as I found these tools where really poor at accurately tracking my distance. I ran both outside and on a treadmill, and I think I confused my IPOD. Needless to say since I was very concerned about tracking my runs, I limited myself to either running on a treadmill (which basically limited me to 99 minutes of running, because my treadmill shuts off then.) or running a "known distance" course. It was very problematic when I was trying to make myself run longer. In a couple of days my new Sportwatch arrived and it revolutionized my training, allowing me to track many of my runs that I hadn't been able to track before (I am in the Army and run almost daily, but the Army frowns on running with IPODs.). Soon I was able to start running my long runs "to feel" meaning I wasn't tied to a specific distance I could just run until I felt myself starting to wane and then turn around and head back. My marathon training started improving, and my long run distance started to grow first by a couple of tenths of miles and then by miles and miles. I really just used the most basic features of the Sportswatch accurately tracking pace and distance, but it did those very well. It really helped me keep my training plan on track. Unfortunately as summer started these long runs started to take a lot out of me. So I started jumping in the swimming pool after I ran. This worked great until I started having problems with my Sportswatch (allegedly water resistant to 5 ATMs). Problems with my Nike SportswatchNike Warranty to the Rescue!A couple of days after I started jumping in the swimming pool after my long runs I started noticing problems with my Sportwatch. One morning I woke to find a bit of condensation on the inside edge of the Sportwatch. In denial, I decided it wasn't a big deal and that it would probably just go away. It didn't. It got worse, until it was next to impossible to read the Sportwatch readout when I was running. Finally the watch gave out. I had the watch maybe six or seven weeks before these problems started. I wasn't very happy. When I checked online it turned out that the Nike Sportwatch comes with a one year warranty so I called the nice people at Nike (but really expected to get some sort of run around). When I called Nike they immediately apologized for the problem and offered to replace the watch. They offered me two options one was for me to print out their business shipping label and send them my broke watch and they would send me a new one, or I could give them my credit card number and they would immediately ship me a new Sportwatch and I would have 30 days to ship (again at their expense) my broke one back o them (or they would charge me for the new watch). Since I had a 17.7 km race coming up on the 4th of July, I opted for the second option. It worked just like the people at Nike said it would and was suprisingly easy (much to my suprise). I recieved my second Nike Sportswatch two days before my big race and was able to use it during the Paladin Games for my 17.7 km race. I was pretty pleased. The second watch worked great just like the first, and I started taking my watch off before I got in the pool and for a while I had no issues. No issues for about another six or seven weeks, when I started noticing condensation under the watch face again. I had been very careful not to submerge the watch in the swimming pool, but I had worn it in the shower and had worn it out in the rain on a couple of cases (including some pretty heavy rain after hurricane Isaac came through). I don't know if it was the rain or the Mississippi humidity, but my watch was developing condensation inside it again. Needless to say a few days later and the watch was blinking on and off and was essentailly non functional. I was not happy. When it worked I loved the Nike Sportswatch, but having to replace it every other month was ridiculous. So I called the Nike warranty folks again (fully expecting they would accuse me of doing something wrong and that they won't give me my money back.), and again to my suprise they were very apologetic and offered a full refund or the option to try another watch. I thought about just getting my money back and moving to something else, but truth is I REALLY LIKED the Nike Sportswatch when it worked so I decided to see if the third time was the charm. The Third Time was the CharmSeven Months and CountingLuckily it turned out my decision to try one last Nike Sportswatch was a good one. I have been using it regularly for over seven months without any issues. I have used it in Mississippi (including during my first full marathon) and have travelled around the world with it, using it in Jordan, Kuwait and Afghanistan. In every case it worked great and has yet to have any problem with condensation (although I admit that I now even take my Sportswatch off before I shower.). I have used my Nike Sportswatch to track over 1000 miles successfully and have been extremely satisfied with both the watch and the support I have recieved from the team at Nike. I highly recommend the Nike Sportswatch for anyone from those just getting started in running to those dedicated atheletes looking for a better way to track their workouts. It is one of the best tools I have ever used. Post CommentNo HTML is allowed in comments, but URLs will be hyperlinked. You can suffer from a little blister to a full blown out knee caps if you're not careful while running. Here are the 5 most common injuries most individuals suffer from when running, and how you can prevent them from happening. Blisters are caused by the constant rubbing of your shoe against your skin. They can be on the toes, side of the feet, or the heel, and anywhere in between. If left untreated, they can become infected and cause some major discomfort as well as pain. How to prevent blisters: Always wear shoes that fit your feet. Wearing shoes that's one size too big or small will result in you suffering from occasional blisters. Another thing to note here is that, when you run, your feet will sweat. Hence you'll have wear a pair of socks that's long enough to go past the top of your shoes, so as to avoid having blisters at your ankles. If you start to get a blister, use a Band Aid to cover the area until it recovers. Let the blister heal by itself. Do not pop it, as the fluid underneath serves to keep the blister protected until the skin underneath heals. Runner's knee comes as a result of you overworking your knees (from running long distances consistently) over a period of time, coupled with the fact that you do not allow the surrounding sore muscles enough time to fully recover. How to prevent runner's knee: Stretching is the best way to prevent any physical injuries related to running. Be sure you stretch all the muscles and tendons before you start running. Your muscles should be well warmed up before you do any running. Also, do some squats and lunges to build up your hamstrings, shins, and calves of your legs, because the stronger they are, the less likely you'll suffer from runner's knee. When you over do your running activities, you could end up with sore muscles. Sore muscles are caused as a result of tiny tears in the muscle fibers. How to prevent sore muscles: Make sure you properly warm up your muscles before you take off on a run. Start your run slowly, and gradually increase your pace. Another thing you can do is to have a hot bath or a massage after your run to help relieve your sore muscles for a faster recovery. Chafing is caused when your clothes constantly rub against your skin, causing rashes to form around the area. You can also get chafing when you run in the rain. Some of the common places where chafing occurs is under the bra line (for women), in the underarms, as well as around the inner thigh area. How to prevent chafing: Wear sportswear that is specially made for running. They have flat seams, not round seams, which can help prevent chafing. Also, they fit better and don't shift around while you're running. Cracks in your feet are called heel fissures. They are caused by dry feet, coupled with constant running, which over time, breaking open the skin, resulting in bleeding and subsequently, an infection around the area (for more severe cases). How to prevent heel fissures: If you find that your feet is dry, apply moisturizer on it. Also, try not to wear sandals or open shoes (even when not running) so as to avoid drying out your feet. 653996 060 KD 7 Calm Before The Storm Grey Hyper Punch Light Magnet Grey,Promoting a hotel is all about creating a presence that fits the hotel's location. Frequent examples are stubbing the toe against a hard object or alternatively dropping something heavy on it. Athletes, particularly runners are prone to this sort of injury,. This necessitates both a steady hand and nerve! The toenail can usually be saved if the blood is drained. First, clean the foot thoroughly, dry and swab the affected toe with alcohol. Next, heat the end of a thoroughly cleaned needle, with a match until it is red hot. Now, slowly and gently pierce your toenail. The heat from the sharp object melts the nail and allows the blood to flow out from beneath it. Remember also to both bath and disinfect the foot afterwards. Strangely, there is some anecdotal evidence that the incidence of black toenails, may increase dramatically around thanksgiving and Easter holiday times! These are the two main holiday periods when people remove 12 18 pound ( 5 8 kilogram ) frozen turkeys from the freezer, and drop them squarely on their big toe! So, take care when unloading the turkey if you want to avoid unsightly and painful black toenails!
